This is a technique that uses shorter rods, 12-20lb class is ideal for around this part of the Bristol Channel that lets you "drift" your bait away from the boat with the prevailing current. The rig is simply droped over the side and lowered slowly to the sea bed allowing bait presentation outside the boat's "scare area" by the time it reaches the bottom. Given the lead has to fight the current to reach the bottom, the weights are  heavier 8-16oz and don't require any grip wires. 30lb mono or braid is suitable for this method although due to it's smaller diameter, abrasive resistance  and no stretch quality braid lines are fast becoming the standard.
